Join Team Celiac to Raise Awareness of Celiac Disease

On Sunday March 13th, 2005 Join Team Celiac at the Walden Galleria Mall(Cheektowaga, NY) to Raise Awareness of Celiac Disease and Support Diabetes at the Winter Walk for Diabetes.

Registration is $5.00 per person. This includes a Team Celiac T-shirt (donated by GlutenFreeTshirts.com), Celiac Awareness Flyers and Gluten Free Snacks after the event.
Each Walker will seek sponsors for the event. Sponsored funds will go to the Diabetes Association. Walk Starts at 10:00 am.
Separate Tax Deductible donations to Gluten Free In WNY are gratefully accepted.
Minimally 1 in 18 people with Diabetes have Celiac Disease. Many have never heard of Celiac Disease or that they could have it.

Last Year Team Celiac was the Largest team (54 walkers) and raised the 3rd largest amount of funds. Our awareness effort also found 4 new celiacs that I am aware of and caused great interest.

Join us for a casual winter walk inside the Galleria Mall, help Raise Awareness of Celiac Disease and Support Diabetes.

Dr. Cynthia Rudert, FACP Dr. Rudert, who practices medicine in Atlanta, Georgia, is Medical Advisor for the Celiac Disease Foundation and the Gluten Intolerance Group of America. Her practice focuses largely on patients with celiac disease. She lectures widely to health professionals and celiac groups, and received rave reviews from her presentations at the National CCA Conferences in Ottawa and Kamloops.

Dr. Robert Issenman Dr. Issenman is professor of Pediatrics at McMaster University, and Chief of Pediatric Gastroenterology and Nutrition at McMaster Children's Hospital. He specializes in gastro-intestinal problems in children and teens. He is Medical Advisor for the CCA, Hamilton Chapter.

Marion Zarkadas Marion Zarkadas, M.Sc., RD, is a retired Policy and Legislation Officer at the Canadian Food Inspection Agency and lead author of "Common Allergic Foods and Their Labelling in Canada - A Review" published in the Canadian Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology in 1999. She presently serves on the Professional Advisory Boards of the Canadian Celiac Association and the Allergy/Asthma Information Association.

Donna Washburn PHEc, Heather Butt, PHEc Donna and Heather , acknowledged experts in the field of gluten-free recipe development and authors of "125 Best Gluten-Free Recipes", are pleased to be launching their new Gluten-Free cookbook. Working together in their test kitchen they enjoy the added challenge of baking gluten-free products that are nutritious and as close to wheat as possible in both flavor and texture.

Shelley specializes in nutrition counseling for gastrointestinal disorders such as celiac disease; food allergies and intolerances; heart disease and diabetes.

Shelley is a frequent guest speaker on television and radio, including the NBC Today Show.

Shelley has also co-authored the Celiac Disease Section in the Manual of Clinical Dietetics (6th Edition) by the American Dietetic Association and Dietitians of Canada, as well as sections of the Canadian Celiac Association's "Celiac Disease Needs a Diet for Life Handbook" and A Guide for the Celiac Diabetic.

Shelley serves on the Medical Advisory Boards of the Canadian Celiac Association, Celiac Disease Foundation and the Gluten Intolerance Group, as well as the Advisory Board of Living Without Magazine.

Shelley is also a member of the American Dietetic Association including the Dietitians in Business and Communications, Nutrition Entrepreneurs and Dietitians in General Clinical Practice Groups.
